Mission Trips

As a missional church both the AMC youth and adults are encouraged to take trips, domestic and abroad in an effort to share the message of Jesus while learning and growing in their faith.

November 2015

In 2015 AMC  and Sunnyside Mennonite Church worked together to build a home for a man in Nebraska who had lost his in a tornado. Through Mennonite Disaster Service’s  Partnership Home Project, the two churches built a home for Doug Schmidt. Volunteers gathered in Arthur in June to build the walls that were transported to Nebraska. Several trips, with different groups of volunteers were made to Nebraska to construct and finish the house. The home was officially dedicated in October. Learn more about this project in the  November 2015 Greater Things  newsletter.

Elkhorn, West Virginia

In June 2010 a group of 20 AMC youth and adults traveled to Elkhorn, West Virginia to participate in the Sharing with Appalachian People (SWAP) program.   SWAP addresses sub-standard housing in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. Participants work with and for local homeowners “In the name of Christ”, sharing the message of God’s love and building relationships that serve to enrich all involved.

Ecuador

In July of 2010 a group of 5 AMC people traveled with a group from Hopedale Mennonite Church in Illinois to visit and make connections with a new Mennonite Church being planted in Riobamba, Ecuador. AMC supported missionaries Don and Jan Rheinheimer with Mennonite Mission Network were helping this church get started and were the main contacts during their visit to Ecuador. It was a blessing to get to know these brothers and sisters in Ecuador, grow in our relationships, and help them with some projects around the new church they had just moved into. We continue to lift them in prayer and are reminded of them each Sunday as we look at a banner in our sanctuary that is identical to one that we took them during our visit. We are excited about how God is going to move in that city and country in the years ahead!
